Jamshedpur, February 13, 2004Mr. P K Kaul, Director on the Board of Tata
Steel inaugurated the Electrolytic Cleaning Line (ECL) at the Cold Rolling Mill today. Mr.
B Muthuraman, Managing Director, Tata Steel said that the capacity of the Electrolytic
Cleaning Line at CRM would be 500,000 tones per year. He said this system would enable us
to increase our market share in the automobile industry. The major performance parameter
would be strip cleaning and production of high quality shining cold rolled material.
While addressing the inaugural ceremony Mr. Kaul said that apart from the
growth in the productivity, this system would help in reducing the cost of energy and
rolling oil at Tandem Cold Mill (TCM). It would enable Tata Steel to meet the major demand
from the automobile and white goods sector globally in a very qualitative manner. Further,
the ECL would bring better paintability and productivity at the customer's end and improve
in strip flatness at TCM. It will also help to improve the productivity at batch annealing
furnace and skin pass mill.
While SMS Demag has supplied the machinery, L&T, Stewarts &
Lloyds, ABB, UB Engg, Voltas, Tata Steel Growth Shop, Tata Honeywell, Kirloskar
Pneumatics, Tarapore & Co etc have helped Tata Steel in installing this line.
Amongst other dignitaries, Dr. Jamshed J Irani, Director, Tata Sons, Dr T
Mukherjee, Dy Managing Director (Steel), Tata Steel, Mr. R B B Singh, President, Tata
Worker's Union and Mr. Gerd Scheffler from SMS Demag were also present on the occasion.
