Tata Steel's Mines Division and Ferro Alloys & Mineral Division (FAMD)
won 24 prizes in group events and 21 prizes in individual events in different categories
of competitions and proved its outstanding performance on safety front in the just
concluded 41st Annual Mines Safety Week for Chaibasa region under the aegis of Directorate
General of Mines Safety, Govt. of India. The final day function, of this weeklong
celebrations in which around 171 mines of Jharkhand & Orissa have participated, was
hosted by M/s. OMC Ltd., and was held at Seranda, Bhadrasahi on 30th November 2003. Mr. K
K Pasi, Dy.DGMS, South Eastern Zone, Ranchi was present as the Chief Guest during this
function and presented awards to the winners. The function was also graced by eminent
social worker Padmashree Tulsi Munda, Mr.R.C. Srivastava, ED (RMD), SAIL,
Mr.R.B.Chakrabarty, Director Mines Safety, Chaibasa region and several other distinguished
guests. Tata Steel Mines Division's General Manager (OMQ), Mr.Avinash Prasad along with
other senior officials were present on this occasion.
Tata Steel's Joda East Iron Mine (JEIM) won 6 First prizes and 1 Second
prize in the Group events including the First prize of Bokaro Steel Plant Shield for
Overall Performance. JEIM also bagged 3 Second prizes in the Individual events. Gomardih
Dolomite Quarry (GDQ) of Tata Steel, situated in Sundergarh district of Orissa, clinched 4
First prizes in Group events which include First prize of K Chowda Cup for Overall
performance and 4 more prizes in individual events. Khondbond Iron Mine annexed 3 First
Prizes including EMI Shield for Overall Performance and 2 prizes in Individual events.
Continuing with this winning streak Katamati Iron Mine won 3 First Prizes including SN
Mohanty Cup for being adjudged First on Overall performance and 1 prize in Individual
event. Tata Steel's Noamundi Iron Mine (NIM) got 2 Second prizes in Group events and 2
prizes in Individual event. NIM's Sri.Dharnidhar Ghosh was declared Accident Free worker
with longest service.
Tata Steel's Gomardih Dolomite Quarry, which has performed quite
creditably in this competition, is one of the longest accident free mine of the country.
No accident has taken place in this mine since 9th August 1992 and till date it has
recorded 7.27 Million Accident Free Man Hours. Similarly JEIM and NIM are also having
accident free operations for quite a long time.
Besides these, the mines in the FAMD Division have won awards as follows:
