Four employees of Tata Steel have been announced to receive The Prime
Ministers Shram Award-2004. This year, for the first time, the private
sector companies were brought within the ambit of Prime Ministers Shram Awards
Scheme and Tata Steel made a noteworthy beginning.
While no nomination was found suitable for the Shram Ratna
category, the highest Shram award, two employees of Tata Steel were conferred the
Shram Vir/Virangana Award, the second highest category. They were nominated
for this award for their continuous record of dedicated service and high order of
productivity.
Mr Kartik Kumar Mandal and Mrs. Jaswant Kaur working in the Tata Steel
works at Jamshedpur were given cash award of Rs 60,000 and a Sanad
respectively for Shram Vir/Virangana Award. In addition, Mrs. Domini Murmu and
Mrs. Asha Hansda of Tata Steel won the Shram Devi Awards for showing extra
ordinary zeal and enthusiasm for work and remarkable contribution towards productivity.
This award carries a cash award of Rs.40,000/- and a Sanad
Out of the six women workers who won the awards, three are from Tata
Steel. All the three women employees from Tata Steel are Tejaswinis in the
Company. Under Tajaswini programme women employees of the company are encouraged and
trained to undertake jobs, which are conventionally carried by men. They were also given
training to handle heavy machineries, drive vehicles and locomotives etc.
The award had different categories, such as, Shram Ratna, Shram Bhusan,
Shram Vir/Virangana and Sharm Shree/Shram Devi. |
