The Department of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR), Goverment of India, have chosen Tata Steel for DSIR National Award for R&D Efforts in Industry (2001) in the area of New Materials.

The Steel Company's entry for this award has been the "Development of Dent Resistant Grade for Car Body". This grade was so far being imported from Korea & Japan. The steel grade from Tata Steel, first time in India, has met the exacting combination of high strength and formability and the future should witness progressively greater use of this material.

The award will be presented at the inaugural session of the 15th National Conference on In-house R&D in Industry to be held on 22nd November 2001 at New Delhi.
