| October 9, 2001 The British Safety Council has conferred upon Tata Steel
its Safety Award for the year 2000. The award has been conferred upon the Steel Company
for the second consecutive year.
The citation received from the Council and signed by Sir Neville Purvis, Knight
Commander of Bath and Director General says that the award has been given "In
recognition and commendation of services rendered in the cause of safety".
The award is normally given to those organisations whose accident rate is below the
accident rate in the industry.
