Tata Steel organises National Fire Service Week

Jamshedpur, April 16, 2018

Tata Steel is organizing the National Fire Service Week from April 14 –  20, 2018 across all its locations. The aim is to pay homage to the brave fire fighters who save lives and assets of people and organisations. The opportunity is also used to create fire safety awareness among the employees, contractors and the community to prevent and manage fire and fire related emergencies.

The National Fire Service Week was inaugurated on April 14, 2018 at all the major locations of Tata Steel, India. At Jamshedpur, the commencement of the National Fire Service Week took place at Tata Steel Fire Brigade, inside the Works. Mr Avneesh Gupta, Vice President, Shared Services, Tata Steel and Mr. Arvind Kumar Pandey, Vice President, Tata Workers’ Union graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honor respectively. Other dignitaries present were Mr. Gopal P Choudhary, Chief Security & Brand Protection, Tata Steel, Mr. Rakesh Joshi, Senior. Manager, Fire Brigade, Tata Steel & Mr. Ashish Kumar Singh, UCM Fire Brigade & Safety, Tata Steel.

Mr. Avneesh Gupta, Vice President Shared Services, expressed gratitude at the Fire Service personnel for the sacrifices they make to save lives and assets. He commended the Fire Service of Tata Steel for efficient management of fire incidents in the Company as well as in the community. He emphasized the need of upgrading the skills of the fire fighters and use of technology for prevention and management of fire.

Mr. Arvind Kumar Pandey praised commitment and hard work done by the Fire Service personnel to save lives and assets of the Company and community.

Mr Gopal P Choudhary explained the importance of Fire Service Week and listed the events planned for the campaign. These include organizing awareness sessions on fire safety in various departments, training to communities on domestic fire safety, awareness cum training program at market places, mock drills on Fire & Emergency preparedness at various schools in Jamshedpur with the help of National Disaster Response Force, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, online quiz and in-house competitions.
A Vote of Thanks was given by Mr Ashish Kumar Singh, UCM. He expressed gratitude to dignitaries, participants and organizers of the function.

April 14, 2018 is observed as National Fire Service Day in India. On this day, in the year 1944, the Fire Personnel displayed exemplary courage and devotion to their duty as they fought the huge fire that had erupted following an explosion on a ship S.S. Fort Stikine at the dock of Mumbai Port. Many firefighters lost their lives in this incident. On April 14, 2018, every year homage is paid to those brave fire fighters who laid their lives on the call of duty.
