Tata Steel inaugurates Vaartaa

Lessons on turning agriculture profitable and sustainable will come to farmers from scientists at Vaartaa, an agriculture meet by Tata Steel, which was inaugurated today at Ganesh Puja Maidan, Jamshedpur.

Around 600 farmers from Jharkhand’s Kolhan region and Jamadoba have come to attend the three-day meet where they will get enough opportunities to interact with scientists from some of the country’s leading agriculture institutes.

On the occasion Mr. Sunil Bhaskaran, VP, Corporate Service, Tata Steel said “At Vaartaa, farmers would be able to approach scientists directly and gain knowledge about new farming technologies. Apart from scientists, farmers can also learn from each other at the event,” added Mr. Sunil Bhaskaran. He also gave examples of some progressive farmers who have brought changes in their lives through agriculture.

Mr. Biren Bhuta, Chief CSR; Mr. Debdoot Mohanty, Head CSR, Jharkhand, Mr. R Ravi Prasad, President, Tata Workers’ Union, Mr. Rakeshwar Pandey, President, TSRDS Workers’ Union were also present on the occasion.

The next two days of Vaartaa will witness knowledge sharing sessions by scientists on `climate resilient agriculture’, `vegetable marketing’, `integrated farming’, `lac cultivation’, `pisciculture’, etc.  The scientists attending the meet are from institutes like Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR), Central Research Institute for Dry land Agriculture (CRIDA), Horticulture and Agro-Forestry Research Programme (HARP), Birsa Agriculture University (BAU), Central Horticulture Research Station (CHES), Bhubaneswar etc.

An exhibition-cum-sale displaying modern farming implements, agriculture produce, compost etc. is also being organised during Vaartaa.
