The third edition of the Centre for Excellence Heritage Walk took place today with more than forty students who covered five historical locations namely Sir Dorab Tata Park, Armoury Ground, PN Bose Memorial, Director’s Bungalow, United Club and St. George’s Church. The Heritage Walk was flagged off by Ms. Ruchi Narendran.

The well structured visit included std. VIII and IX students from Loyola School, Kerala Samajam Model School, JH Tarapore School and D.B.M.S. English School who were accompanied by one faculty member of their respective school. Eminent citizens from Jamshedpur Mr. Dickey Mody, Mr. A M Misra and Ms. Lalita Sareen took students through the historical significance of every site and captivated them with interesting anecdotes and stories. The visit ended at CFE later in the morning with an open quiz on Jamshedpur.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Ruchi Narendran said; “While legendary personalities like Sir Dorab Tata have bequeathed us this wonderful city named Jamshedpur, it is important for us to be aware of our heritage and also our responsibility to preserve it” Ms. Ruchi Narendran also spoke about the immense contribution of Sir Dorab Tata in bringing to life Jamsetji Tata’s dream of a steel plant and the city of Jamshedpur itself. 

World Heritage Week is celebrated across the globe every year from November 19 - 25. It is celebrated to educate people about the importance of their cultural heritage and its preservation. Centre For Excellence took this opportunity to spread awareness about the history of heritage buildings and locations in the city and through it generate desire to preserve the same in young minds from Jamshedpur.
