Tata Relief Committee provides relief assistance to Odisha flood affected

Tata Relief Committee (TRC), formed by Tata Steel and other Tata Group companies, has come to the assistance of the flood-affected people of Odisha.

More than 50,000 families spread over three districts of the State have been covered by the relief operations of TRC. This includes the worst affected Badachana and Bari blocks in Jajpur district and Kanasa block in Puri district of Odisha.

In the first phase, dry food, drinking water pouches, candles and match boxes are being distributed to the flood-affected people in the inundated areas. The state witnessed two spells of flood in the month of September which affected a large population.

During this period of distress, TRC, in collaboration with the district administration, distributed relief materials in various flood-affected areas.

Apart from undertaking relief operations for the flood ravaged people in Jajpur and Puri districts, TRC and Tata Steel have also taken up the distribution of relief in Keonjhar district of Odisha.

In Joda, the Company is distributing dry food, water pouches, polythene sheets and candles & match boxes among the flood-affected families. Further, to ensure safe drinking water to the flood affected families, bleaching powder is being used to disinfect the water sources.

Anti-mosquito and insect repellent gas is being sprayed in the evenings to prevent occurrence of malaria in the post-flood situation in Joda and its adjoining areas. Besides, Ambulance & Mobile Medical Vans of Tata Steel have been pressed into service for providing emergency health services in the affected areas.

TRC has been operating in Odisha since 1961 and has been a friend of the people of the State at times of their need whenever they have been affected by natural calamities. Tata Relief Committee has been recognised by Odisha State Disaster Mitigation Authority (OSDMA) for its outstanding contribution during flood relief operations in the State in 2008.
