The Annual Safety Recognition function was held yesterday at the Steelenium Hall, at Tata Steel Works. This function was held to award people and their safety practices, both within Tata Steel’s premises as well as in the city at large.

The theme for the two day function was Injury Free Steel – what we can do for ourselves and for others around us. Based on this, numerous sessions were held to highlight Tata Steel’s proactive effort towards ensuring safety at all levels in the work place, whether it is on the road, shop floor or at one of the Company’s construction sites. Some of Tata Steel’s best practices on shop-floor, on road and at different construction sites of the Company were also showcased.

Present on the occasion were Mr A K Singh, Chief Inspector of Factories, Jharkhand and special guest; Mr H M Nerurkar, MD, Tata Steel and chief guest; Mr Raghunath Pandey, President, Tata Workers’ Union and guest of honour; Mr T V Narendran, Vice President (Safety & Flat Products). Addressing the gathering, Mr Nerurkar said, “Safety is a responsibility of all. I thank the different schools who have taken up safety as an important subject so as to inculcate safety practices amongst children from a very young age. Road safety is once again a responsibility for us all. I also thank all our employees who have made an effort to bring about a positive change of attitude towards their work, thereby creating a safe work place for all. We have come a long way, but we have a longer way to go. Unless we have achieved zero fatality for continuous five years, we cannot say we have achieved our goal to become a safe company.”

At the Annual Recognition Function, a number of schools, contractors, employees, and departments were awarded for safety practices in their respective areas. Several employees and their families were also presented with safety awards at the function. The awardee list is attached herewith. Also present were senior executives of the Company, executives from Nat Steel and Tata Steel Europe, Union office bearers, principals and students of different schools in the city, contractor partners and employees along with their families.
