Tata Steel Parivar Aspires to reach the Himalayas Seven Boys from Tata Steel Parivar Taking Part in Himalayan Trekking

Seven boys from among the rehabilitated families of Tata Steel's 6 MT Integrated Steel Plant at Jajpur District has been selected to take part in an Outdoor Leadership Programme conducted by Tata Steel Adventure Foundation from the April 22 to May 08, 2009. In the age group of 18 to 26 these boys will participate in the Himalayan trekking.

The programme will be conducted in the Himalayan Range, at the Garhwal region, under the guidance of Ms. Bachendri Pal, the first Indian woman to scale Mount Everest and now the Head of Tata Steel Adventure Foundation. A total of 50 tribal youths drawn from different locations of Tata Steel in Jharkhand and Orissa will take part in this expedition.

The participants of the Trekking from Kalinganagar are, Sangi Paleya, Sanjay Kumar Jamuda, Hindu Ram Tamsay, Mahabir Hembram, Jena Bage, Jogeshwar Angrai and Sanjay Kumar Tiu. They will join a group another 43 tribal youths in Jamshedpur before embarking on their journey to Uttarkashi, which is the base camp. Since the participants are from different locations, the programme will also facilitate cross cultural exchange and the opportunity to learn on what development efforts are being made in other parts of the State.

The team was flagged off from Tata Steel office in Dhangadi near Jajpur road on April 21, 2009 by Mr Ramkanta Mohanty, LAO of Kalinganagar in presence of senior officer of Tata Steel and other members of rehabilitated families of Tata Steel Paribar.

The main objective behind organizing such event is to provide opportunities to the participants to imbibe leadership and team building skills along with creating a difference in the lifestyle of the Tata Steel Paribar being relocated for the 6 MT Integrated Steel plant of the Company coming up in Jajpur District.
