December 13, 2009

On 13th Dec 2009 top twenty talents to be felicitated

Welcome to Imagine the Universe! Enjoy your cosmic journey! Explore a universe of black holes, dark matter, and quasars... A universe full of extremely high energies, high densities, high pressures, and extremely intense magnetic fields which allow us to test our understanding of the laws of physics. With the concentrated effort of Tata Steel and Pathani Samanta Planetarium School children of Orissa are now collating their thought on moving in and around the galaxy.

To know a story is to have knowledge. This is just how children learn and how instruction should be designed to help them develop the conceptual structures that will permit them to grasp complex ideas. The Young Astronomer Talent Search (YATS) was in fact a first of its kind talent hunt in the State. Such type of events would certainly give an opportunity to the students in rural and remote areas of the State to exhibit their talents and come to the forefront in the field of astronomy. YATS was another example of Tata Steel's commitment for all-round growth of Orissa and its people.

The topic for this year is "India in Space". The enthusiasm and passion shown by the young participants from all over Orissa promises to enthrall the guests and it will be a challenge for judges to choose the best 20 amongst the participants. Out of thousand of participants from 30 districts of Orissa, 118 successful students of the zonal camp have been invited for the State Camp in Bhubaneswar this year being organized at Pathani Samanta Planetarium from 12th to 13th December 2009 . Students use this platform as preparatory camp for Astronomy Olympiad for their future beyond curricular activity.

The talent search is organized in three stages - conceptualization, presentation in zonal camp and presentation in state level camp. The best 20 models of the state level camp would be awarded on the eve of the 174th anniversary of Mahamahopadhyay Chandrasekhar Singhsamant Harichandan Mahapatra popularly known as Pathani Samanta on December 13, 2009.
