Tata Steel Participates in Udyog Mela in Jharkhand

Ranchi, November 14, 2007

Tata Steel, the first private steel enterprise in India, known for its nation building initiatives for the last 100 years is participating in the Udyog Mela beginning on November 15, 2007. The date marks the birth anniversary of the legendary Birsa Munda.

Following a theme each year, the colourful stall of Tata Steel this year, is based on the theme of “Ateet Se Bhavishyas Tak” (From the Past to the Future). As a socially responsible corporate, Tata Steel has always striven not only for development of the state, but has also created benchmarks in initiatives for the social upliftment of society. Through its display at the Udyog Mela, Tata Steel has identified pre-cursors of rural development and progress. While Water, Forest, Land and Minerals play a vital role in the growth of the population, the Company has also acknowledged the cultural diversity of the people in the Jharkhand. As the company respects the cultural ethos of the state, it’s needless to say, that it is concerned regarding the preservation of the same. Through the platform of Udyog Mela, Tata Steel aims to strengthen the potential of the people and promote the state of Jharkhand as a self reliant state.

On one hand where Tata Steel wants to ensure the sustainability of resources and culture of this rich state, it also wants to inculcate empowerment and self reliance among the rural youth. This will lead to prosperity and growth of the state. Tata Steel strongly believes that industries based on minerals leads to happiness and opens new horizons for the overall development of the state. The stall that depicts industries based on minerals signifies the importance of growth in all spheres of life. Setting up of projects is bound to bring about displacement of families. Tata Steel who has compromised on its social initiatives is completely aware of this fact and has a stall that explains its stand on this through the concept of ‘Tata Steel Pariwaar’, wherein the company will take care of the upliftment of the socio-economic status of displaced or project affected families (PAF). It will try to ensure a balanced and sustainable growth in every sphere, with not only agricultural but also industrial growth in the years to come.

As Tata Steel has had a glorious 100 years in the state of Jharkhand, the stall will also have an attractive display of expansion of the old projects and establishments of the new plants. Be it expansion of the Jamshedpur Brownfield plant from 5 MT to 10 MT or the commissioning of the proposed 12 MT Greenfield plant at Seraikella-Kharsawan and set-up of the steel processing plant at Manohapur, Tata Steel will leave no stone unturned to continue its endeavour to work for the betterment of the people.
