Training Camp for Bangladeshi Athletes Inaugurated at Jamshedpur

Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) has selected eighteen sportspersons in the events of Boxing, Athletics and Archery, who will undergo training in the sports facilities of Tata Steel, Jamshedpur. The training camp is being inaugurated by Mr. A.N. Singh, Deputy Managing Director, Tata Steel, today, 6th November at Jamshedpur. The training camp will be held for a period of two months, after which selected athletes shall attend the Asian Games in Doha.

The visiting group of Bangladeshi sportspersons consists of eight archers, six boxers, four athletes and four officials. The group of eight Archers includes four men and four women Archers. These Archers will also participate in the upcoming 2nd Commonwealth Archery Championship being held at Jamshedpur.

It may be recalled that on 3rd September 2006, Tata Steel signed a Memorandum of Understanding with BOA, in which it was agreed that Tata Steel would train Bangladeshi sportspersons recommended by BOA on an ongoing basis.

Tata Steel has proposed a steel plant and coal mine in Bangladesh, and in line with its philosophy of Partners in Progress, it has undertaken this effort. This is the first time that Tata Steel’s Corporate Social Responsibility activities would reach out across the national borders of the country.

It is the only Indian company to invest in world-class facilities, create academies and to maintain and manage international level arenas.
