Tata Steel Ltd Installs Chair Professor at the Indian School of Mines

Jamshedpur, September 15, 2006

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed today, 15th September, between Tata Steel Limited and Indian School of Mines (ISM) on installation of a “Chair Professor” in the Indian School of Mines by Tata Steel Limited. According to this MoU, “Tata Steel Chair Professor" will be in the Mineral Processing with Fuel & Mineral Engineering Department in ISM. The appointed Professor will be part of the faculty and he will conduct research and development work on coal and mineral beneficiation.

Tata Steel Limited has granted Rs. 1 Crore for the "Tata Steel Chair Professor". The memorandum of understanding was signed at the office of Indian School of Mines by Mr. A. D. Baijal (V.P) Human Resources, Tata Steel and Prof. T. Kumar, Director, I.S.M. The agreement gives access to the Chair Professor to give recommendations and suggestions to Tata Steel on daily basis.

This prestigious alliance between the steel company and the educational institute, both of national and international repute, will not only help miners in Tata Steel to enhance their knowledge base but will also enable students to gain information about operations in coal mining.

The dignitaries present on the occasion included Mr L.S. Divakera, Acting General Manager, Tata Steel, Jharia Division, Mr Venugopal Rao, Dean of Studies, The Head of Department, Fuel and Mineral Engineering Department and Registrars of I.S.M.
