Tata Steel has initiated the construction of a Technical Training Institute near Gopalpur in Ganjam district of Orissa, over an area of more than 10 acres. This institute, which has been designed by the famous Indian Architect Mr. Charles Correa, is expected to be ready by March 2005.

The Technical Training Institute will provide training to people to enable them to be employable in the steel, manufacturing and other industrial sectors in Orissa. Girls and Boys in the age group of 16-20 years, who have completed high school education, will be given training for which the courses are expected to commence from May / June 2005. While selecting candidates for training, preference will be given to eligible candidates from the families rehabilitated during Tata Steel’s project at Gopalpur.The training programme will be modeled along the lines of the Shavak Nanvati Technical Training Institute (SNTI), Jamshedpur, an institute which has been training people for various steel related operations, both at Tata Steel and other steel companies, for over eighty years. Tata Steel has had vast experience in running technical training establishments and has been awarded several national awards for its training initiatives.

Establishment of this high quality Technical Institute at Gopalpur will generate immense opportunities for the people of Orissa and contribute substantially to the human resources needs of fast growing steel industry in Orissa.

The commencement of the construction of Technical Institute started in the presence of Shri Jayakrishna Baral, Vice-Chancellor Berhampur University, Shri Manish Kumar Verma, Project Director, DRDA, Ganjam, Shri S.K.Palsania, SP, Berhampur and Shri R.P.Singh, Vice-President (Engg Services & Projects) and Mr. Rajesh Chintak, Head (SEZ) on 16th Nov 04. Prominent citizens of Berhampur were also present during the occasion.
