37th Jr Men National Boxing Championship at Gopal Maidan

The 37th Jr. Men National Boxing Championship, being organised by Tata Steel in association with Steel Plants Sports Board from October 27, 2004 at Gopal Maidan has been successfully proceeding. The arrangements made by the organisers for the championship has been highly praised by Col. P.K.M. Raja, Secretary General of the Indian Armature Boxing Federation (IABF) as well as the participants.

A total of two hundred and twenty seven Boxers, sixty-six Coach and Managers and seventy Technical Officials, representing thirty-one States/Units are taking part in this championship.

The championship, which was inaugurated by Mr. U.K. Chaturvedi, Vice President (Long Products), Tata Steel, on 27.10.2004 will conclude on November 01, 2004. Sri N.N. Sinha, Secretary, Art, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs, Govt. of Jharkhand, will be the Chief Guest on the final day and will distribute the prizes.

Col. P.K.M. Raja, Secretary General, IABF and Sri Rakesh Thakran, Co-Ordinator, IABF are present here to witness the Championship. Mr. Albert Noronha is the nominated Chairman (Ring Official Commission) and Lenny D'Gama is the Secretary (Ring Official Commission). Mr. Anil Kumar is the Observer, nominated by the IABF, for this Championship. Mr.G.S. Sandhu, National Coach and Mr. B.I. Fernandes, Cuban Boxing Coach, are also present here on this occasion.

Altogether two hundred and sixteen Bouts will be held during the Championship. Till now seventy-five Bouts are over and today is scheduled for sixty-four Bouts commencing from 4:00 PM onwards.

Those Boxers, who will reach upto Quarter Final Bouts in the above Championship, will be allowed to participate in the 1st National Youth Games scheduled to be held at Bangalore from 5th - 12th January 2005. Best eighty-eight Boxers - eight Boxers per Weight Category, will be allowed to participate in the said Games.

Last year, the 36th Jr. Men National Boxing Championship was held at Meerut (UP), where Haryana was the Winner and Services Sports Control Board was the Runners-up.
