Central Zoo Authority team visits Tata Steel Zoological Park

Jamshedpur, February 22, 2017

As per the provisions of the Wild Life (Protection), Act, 1972, any zoo in India can only operate with the recognition of Central Zoo Authority (CZA) . The recognition to Tata Steel Zoological Park had expired on 31/12/2016 and an application seeking renewal of recognition was earlier filed by the zoo with CZA in August, 2016.

Dr. B. K. Gupta, of CZA has been deputed by the Authority to evaluate the zoo once again, so that further renewal of recognition can be considered by CZA.

The inspection commenced at 9:30 am today at the Zoo where Dr. Brij Kishore Gupta took a round and had a close view of animals enclosures and evaluated the status of compliance of conditions of recognition which was provided to the Zoo in January, 2013. He also provided valuable inputs in some parameters into the upkeep of animals, their enrichment and civil maintenance of houses. Dr, Gupta while discussing with the zoo officers, suggested that CZA help in pairing of single animals in the zoo, like Capuchins, pheasants and hippos. He also expressed satisfaction with respect to compliance made to the conditions that have been stipulated by CZA.

Later on he visited the Nature Education Centre and appreciated the collection of books and the educational activities being carried out by the Zoo.

Dr. Gupta will leave tomorrow for Bokaro Zoo for its evaluation.
