The search for budding astronomers of Odisha has started in Jajpur district of Odisha. The 10th edition of Young Astronomer Talent Search (YATS), organised by Tata Steel in collaboration with Pathani Samanta Planetarium, Bhubaneswar, was held today at Budharaj Vidyapitha, Danagadi & Chrome Nagar Bidyapitha, Ferro-Chrome project, Jajpur. More than 300 students participated in essay and open quiz competitions organized on the occasion.

Mr Anjani Sahay, Head, Recruitment & Onboarding and Mr Jiren Xavier Topno, Sr Manager, Training, Tata Steel Kalinganagar were present on the occasion. The competitions were open for students reading in Class VIII to Class X.

In this edition of YATS, on-the-spot essay writing competition and objective type questions on astronomy are being conducted for the students of classes 9th-10th at identified examination centres across the state. An open quiz competition on astronomy is also being organised for the students of classes 7th- 8th at those centres. Through this initiative, Tata Steel is reaching out to schools of 30 districts of Odisha.


With a view to popularize the excellent contributions of the legendary Pathani Samanta in the field of astronomy and to spot and encourage the young talents in the field of astronomy and space science among the school going children, Tata Steel, in collaboration with Pathani Samanta Planetarium has been organizing Young Astronomer Talent Search since 2007.
