Tata Steel pays homage to JRD Tata on his 112th Birth Anniversary

Tata Steel paid homage to Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhai Tata on the occasion of his 112th birth anniversary today. Various events were held at different locations to commemorate the day.

SONARI AIRPORT
The Chief Guest for the occasion, Mrs Jolly Sunil paid homage to the legend. As a mark of tribute, a short film on JRD Tata’s life and his passion for flying, showcasing the philosophy of the pioneering industrialist, was screened at Sonari Airport by Tata Steel's Aviation department. The special program also included an Aero-modeling show and static display of aircraft.


SPORTS DEPARTMENT
The Sports department of Tata Steel organized a Cross Country race today for Jogga school children. Around 1000 children participated in the event. An under-12 and under-14 Football tournament was also organized today at Armoury ground. Earlier, an open school Badminton Tournament was organized from July 25-27, 2016 at JRD Tata Sports Complex.

KALINGANAGAR
At Tata Steel Kalinganagar, a ‘JRD Tata Football Tournament’ for the community was organized on July 26-27, 2016. On the same dates, the employees were engaged into rounds of Table Tennis and Carrom Tournament. A Cross Country race for community children was organized on July 27, 2016 which included participation from nearly 800 children.

NOAMUNDI
Team Noamundi paid homage to JRD Tata at PIT office, Bottom Bin office and Training Institute by Mr Pankaj Kumar Satija, GM (OMQ) along with Mr O P Singh, Assistant Secretary, Noamundi Mazdoor Union; Mr Hari Solanki, Treasurer-Noamundi Mazdoor Union; Mr Uday Barik, Union Representative; Mr S S Rout, Head-Processing and Logistics, among others.

On the occasion, Mr Satija said: “JRD Tata touched the lives of countless people, rich and poor, manager and worker, as he became the embodiment of the principles and philosophy of the House of Tatas”.
Tata Steel Rural Development Society, Noamundi organized Inter-Center Football Tournament to celebrate the occasion. A total of five teams from Noamundi and Katamati had a friendly match and the winning team was given prizes by GM (OMQ). On this occasion, sapling distribution was also organized at village Jampani and Sialjora schools. Under ‘Rishta Project’ (campaign for United Pledge against Child Marriage), door to door campaign was organized across Sialjora, Govardanpur and Jampundia villages of Katamati area. Parents, youth and children were sensitized about the disadvantages of the early child marriage and were encouraged to pursue education. More than 900 households were touched upon.
