Tata Steel organizes 'Greenathon' – a run/walk for environment

Tata Steel organized Greenathon – a symbolic run/walk for environment today at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur.

Mr Sashi Nand Kuliyar, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), Singhbhum was the Chief Guest for the event. Mr Suresh Kumar, Vice President, Shared Services, Tata Steel and Mr Sudhanshu Pathak, Vice President, Steel Manufacturing, Tata Steel presided the event.

The walk/run was organized by the Environment Management and Sports Division of Tata Steel for all the citizens of Jamshedpur and to create awareness about the environment. Greenathon was started with the release of balloons and flagged off by the Chief Guest. Close to 1000 citizens of Jamshedpur participated in the Greenathon. Schoolchildren too actively participated in the walk/run for environment.

The run was followed by tree plantation at JRD Tata Sports Complex by all the dignitaries present.The dignitaries also signed messages.

Mr Kuliyar appreciated the efforts taken by Tata Steel towards environment protection, in and around the Steel Works, and said these are remarkable. He said that such events and awareness campaigns for the environment should be conducted everywhere throughout the year by other organizations as well.











Mr Tarun Daga, Managing Director, Tinplate Company of India Ltd, Mr S K Pati, Chief,Environment Management, Tata Steel, Mr Mukul Vinayak Choudhary, Administrator TFA &Sports, Tata Steel, other officers of Tata Steel and members of Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board also participated.

Tata Steel celebrates World Environment Day every year. This year, a number of events are being conducted to mark this occasion. Environment Management department of Tata Steel has planned several events and activities to mark the special occasion and the current theme of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) for World Environment Day 2016 - “Fight against the Illegal Trade in Wildlife”.
