Tata Main Hospital set to observe 'World Hypertension Day'

Jamshedpur, May 16, 2016

Tata Main Hospital is all set to observe ‘World Hypertension’ Day on17th May 2016. The theme for this year is KNOW YOUR NUMBER. On the occasion of World Hypertension Day, the Department of Cardiology has planned to conduct screening of BP.

The screening of BP will be conducted from 17th May to 23 rd May in TMH OPD and TMH Clinics at Kadma, Sonari, Sakchi & Baridih for the employees and non-employees. Screening will also be conducted inside Tata Steel works such as the First Aid Stations, East & West plants and OHS.Blood sugar will also be tested as per need and a health card for follow up will be given to each individual.

Hypertension is a major risk factor for heart attacks and brain strokes. High BP may remain ‘silent’,without any symptom, yet cause slow and steady damage to vital organs, heart, brain, kidneys and eyes. Hypertension, BP value more than 140/90 mm Hg, is very common, affecting 30% of the adult population worldwide. But only 50% of them are diagnosed to have hypertension. Of those diagnosed only 50% take treatment. Most of the patients believe that hypertension gets ‘cured’. Medicines that control BP should not be stopped without regular follow up, since elevated BP may not cause any symptom. The first symptom of untreated hypertension may be a life threatening heart attack or a disabling brain stroke.

Blood Pressure screening will be conducted as per the details given below:
