was named as a tribute to Tata Steel’s founder, Jamsetji Tata.
It is India’s first planned industrial city and a model for
the harmonious co-existence of industry
and environment.
Jamshedpur
Utilities and Services Company (JUSCO) is a wholly owned subsidiary
of Tata Steel providing utilities and services to the city of Jamshedpur.
It is responsible for housekeeping and hospitality, town planning
and engineering, civil construction and maintenance, public health,
education, horticulture, fleet management, water and wastewater
management, power distribution and related activities. JUSCO is
the country’s only EMS 14001
civic services provider. |
Jamshedpur
has been chosen as the first South Asian city for the United Nations
Global Compact Cities pilot programme. In recognition of Tata Steel’s
corporate sustainability efforts, Jamshedpur was chosen as the venue
of the first Regional Conclave of the UN Global Compact.
More than 200 delegates from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Thailand
shared knowledge and presented cases on poverty eradication and
social welfare measures. |
The Jubilee
park is spread over 225 acres of lush greenery dotted
with flower beds and illuminated fountains. It was dedicated to
the nation during
Tata Steel’s golden jubilee year. |
The
Tribal Culture Centre imparts
vocational training, organises tribal festivals and cultural programmes
to empower the natives of the region. |
Centre
for Excellence
has the distinction of being the first centre in the country to
provide a central facility where organisations can work together
towards professional excellence. Promoters of science, technology,
humanities, art, literature and culture can teach and endeavor to
improve the overall productivity of national resources. |
The
R
D Tata Technical Education Centre is
the outcome of a tie-up between Tata Steel and Nettur Technical Training
Foundation, to improve the quality of technical education and cater
to the requirements of industries in the region. |

Treated waste water
from the Town Sewage Treatment Plant
is recycled and used in the Tata Steel works. |

The Tata
Steel Zoological Park houses a variety of fauna. The
animals in the park are kept in conditions that are close to their
natural habitat. |
The
Shavak Nanavati Technical Institute is a 75-year old institute. It
caters to Tata Steel’s technical requirements and impart technical
training to other professional institutions. |
