    Global Aspirations

  • Asia’s first and India’s largest integrated private sector steel Company, Tata Steel is among the lowest cost producers of steel in the world.
  • Tata Steel is also one of the few steel companies in the world that is EVA+
    ( Economic Value Added Positive).

  • The Jamshedpur plant, will expand its capacity from present five-million tonne per annum (MTPA) to Seven MTPA by 2008.
  • In 2004, the Company acquired Singapore based NatSteel Asia and ventured into the markets of six countries in the Asia Pacific region and China.
  • Tata Steel invested in the 1.7 MTPA Millennium Steel, Thailand to strengthen its manufacturing base in the Asia Pacific region.
  • The Company has entered into a joint venture to procure low ash coal from Australia.
  • Tata Steel tied up with BlueScope Steel for setting a metallic coating and painting facility in Jharkhand.
  • The Company’s wire manufacturing unit in Sri Lanka is known as Lanka Special while the joint venture for limestone mining in Thailand as Sila Eastern.

Future Plans

Steel Plant Projects:
India
The Company has embarked upon setting up three greenfield steel plants in eastern India:

  • 12 MTPA plant in Jharkhand
  • 6 MTPA plant in Orissa
  • 5 MTPA plant in Chhattisgarh
  • Jamshedpur Steel Works will become a 7 MTPA unit by 2008.

Overseas:

  • 3 MTPA in Iran
  • 2 MTPA in Bangladesh

Other Projects:
India

  • 0.8 MTPA Metcoke project in West Bengal
  • Deep sea port in Dhamra, Orissa
  • Titanium Dioxide project in Tamil Nadu
  • Joint Venture with BlueScope Steel for a metallic coating and painting steel unit

Overseas

  • Development of a source of low ash coal from Queensland, Australia
  • Ferro Chrome production facility in Richards Bay, South Africa
