Income Generation

Agri extension projects, training, animal husbandry based units and a forestry and plantation programmes were the focus of the income generation activities at the Joda unit of TSRDS.

Agri Extension

Against a target of 200 acres, the Joda unit brought 212 additional acres in 18 villages under Kharif paddy cultivation.

The income generated by second cropping, an important activity to improve family income, was undertaken in 192 acres earning 145 farmers an income of Rs. 6,77,000/-

Paddy Reaper yields better harvest

Baba Bisheswar, a Self Help Group in Revenshawpur with

10 members, found it difficult to sow the winter vegetable crop as they never managed to manually harvest the paddy crop in time. Loss of grain due to delays in harvesting also cost them 10-15% of the crop. In 2004-05, TSRDS suggested they use a paddy reaper, a suggestion they followed. The reaper brought down harvesting costs to one-tenth, from Rs. 500/- an acre to Rs. 50/- acre and at the same time allowed them to utilise their land for the winter crop.
