COMMUNITY HEALTH & HYGIENE

Community Cleft Lip project

Targeted at assisting economically less privileged children born with deformities such as cleft lips and cleft palates, this joint venture between Tata Main Hospital, TSRDS and Smile Train Inc., USA, intends to cover children in the states of Jharkhand, West Bengal and Orissa. All operations were conducted free of cost at Tata Main Hospital, Jamshedpur.

A screening camp was organised at Arki on November 5 by a team of doctors from TMH. Apart from children of Arki block, families residing in Tamar Block in Ranchi District and Gumla District also took advantage of this opportunity to rid their children of the deformity and to restore normal speech.

Cataract Screening Camp

20 cases were selected for cataract operations at an Eye Care Screening Camp conducted by TSRDS at Arki. The operations were conducted free of cost at the Jamshedpur Eye Hospital. Patients were provided protective eye care glasses after the operation by TSRDS.

Health Awareness and Check Up

A free health check up camp was conducted by TSRDS, Ranchi in collaboration with Red Cross Society, Khunti. Over 100 patients who attended the camp were given medical advice and treatment.

All 22 districts of Jharkhand were covered by the “Catch Up Round,” in an endeavour to provide healthcare to every last village and household of the state. The project focussed on removing Vitamin A deficiency, providing measles vaccinations, IFA tablets, deworming of children and Tetanus Toxide immunisation.

To ensure that villagers derive maximum benefit from this healthcare initiative, TSRDS created awareness through announcements, village level meetings and covered the block with posters and pamphlets.
