Tata Steel’s Rescue team bagged 2nd overall champion prize in 47th All India Mines Rescue Competition

The 47th all India Mines rescue competition was held from December 13-17, 2016 at Mines Rescue Station, Nagpur. The competition was organised by Western Coking Coal Limited under guidance of DGMS. A total 18 teams of various coal companies like BCCL (Bharat Coking coal limited), WCL ( Western Coalfield Limited), CCL (Central Coalfield Limited), MCL ( Mahanadi Coal field limited), SCCL, ( South eastern coal field limited), SECL, (Singareni Coal company Limited),  ECL, ( Eastern Coal field limited) SAIL, Tata Steel and six teams of Metal mines companies like UCIL, MOIL etc. participated in the competition.

A total 192 rescue members participated and showcased their performance. Team performance was judged on the basis of various tests like Drill & March Past, First Aid competition, Theory, Fresh air base preparation, rescue work, recovery work, and captain’s report.

The team from Jharia Division of Tata Steel won total five prizes in various categories as follows:

        
  1. Theory – 3rd  Prize
  2.     
  3. First Aid-      3rd  Prize
  4.     
  5. Recovery –      2nd prize
  6.     
  7. Best      Captain – Mr Sanjay Kumar Das ( Manager, Maintenance  Digwadih  Colliery)
  8.     
  9. Overall      Champion – 2nd prize


In addition to above long service award were also given to Mr. Sijay Kumar Chaudhary, Forman, Bhelatand Colliery, and Md. Samshad Khan, Overman, Digwadih Colliery and Mr. Dinesh Prasad Singh, SDL Operator, 6 & 7 Pits Colliery for achieving 25 years of active rescue trained members.

The team was led by Captain Mr. Sanjay Kumar Das and Vice-Captain, Mr. J.B.Dutta. The members comprised Mr. Ajit Kumar Singh, Mr. Pradip Kumar, Mr. Lav Kush Shukl, Mr. Praveen Prasad Yadav, Md. Sadhab Khushtar (Assistant Manager-Mining). Mr. Gopal Kumar Chatterjee, Assistant Forman, Bheltand Colliery, Team Manager was Mr. Kunal Sharan, Head, Safety, Jharia Division and Coach was Mr. G. S. Tiwary, Sr. Manager (Training), PTI, Jharia.

The closing function on December 17, 2016 was attended by Mr. R.K.Mishra, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, WCL, Mr. P.K.Sarkar, Dy Director General Mines Safety, Dhanbad, Mr. C.R.Ramesh Kumar, Director MRS, DGMS Head Quarter Dhanbad and many DGMS officials, General Managers of various Coal companies, union officials, and rescue members.

The awards were given away by Mr Sarkar, Mr Mishra, and Mr Ramesh Kumar.
