MD's response, PM's Trophy ceremony
at New Dellhi, 2003

Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Honb'ble Minister for Steel, Shri Tripathi
Steel Secretary, Shri Jai Singh Gill
Distinguished guests

Ladies and Gentlemen,

On behalf of the forty thousand employees of Tata Steel, my colleague Shri R B B Singh, President of the Tata Workers Union and I accept this Trophy with humility and pride. I would like to thank the Prime Minister for being personally present to give this trophy to us.

Tata Steel is nearly a century old. We believe that our longevity and sustainability stems from our philosophy that "the prime purpose of an industrial organisation is to create wealth for the society". We are proud of this philosophy. We are proud that we have one of the most modern steel plants in the world. We are proud of our people who have a thirst for stretching themselves beyond the realms of possibility.

The greatest pride of our employees is that we are Indians and as Indians we are a part of a Company that is among the top three World Class Steelmakers. It is a National pride that there is one Indian Company, Tata Steel, that is being counted amongst the very best in the world.

In the business of Steel, the rightful position of India is number ONE. All we need is good infrastructure ? roads, railway network, and ports. We can be world beaters.

On behalf of all the employees of Tata Steel, on behalf of the society we serve, our shareholders, customers and suppliers.I thank the Prime Minister of India for bestowing this honour on us.

Thank you.
