Tata Steel and Citizens of Jamshedpur 'Walk for the Heart'

'Billion Heart Beating' campaign rolls out in the Steel City

One of the much awaited health campaigns, Tata Steel unfurled the 'Billion Hearts Beating' campaign in the Steel City at its JRD Tata Sports Complex.

The unveiling took place in presence of Mrs Himani Pande, Deputy Commissioner, East Singhbhum, Mr Sanjiv Paul, Vice President (Corporate Services), Tata Steel, Mr Raghunath Pandey, President, Tata Workers’ Union, Mr Rakeshwar Pandey, President, Tata Mazdoor Union, prominent citizens of the city, principals of various schools and others. The programme began with a Nukkar Natak which highlighted the need to care for the heart, especially in a fast paced world of the present day. This was followed by the Walk beginning at JRD Tata Sports Complex, taking a round of Baug-e-Jamshedpur school, Jubilee Park and ending at the starting line.

Mrs Himani Pande lauded the effort of Tata Steel in undertaking the social responsibility to spread the message of this campaign amongst the people of the city. Mr Sanjiv Paul in his address thanked the District Administration for the able support provided towards this campaign. He also apprised all present on the vast variety of healthcare initiatives that Tata Steel constantly takes up, both for its employees as well as the community at large, to ensure that the citizens lead a healthy and happy life. Mr Raghunath Pandey appreciated the effort of Tata Main Hospital and Sports Division of Tata Steel in encouraging all to join this noble cause and assured all support of the Union for such endeavours in future.

The 'Billion Hearts Beatin' campaign has been initiated by the Apollo Group of Hospitals in a bid to educate Indians on protecting themselves from heart diseases which lead to serious health, social and economic consequences. Sensing the need to create this awareness amongst the citizens of Jamshedpur, Tata Steel joined hands in the nationwide multi-media campaign.

The campaign focuses on how one may adopt simple controls over diet and lifestyle to avoid problems of the heart and urges the people of India to take a pledge to take steps to promote a healthy lifestyle. This campaign is also supported whole heartedly by Mr Ratan N Tata, Chairman, Tata Group to help create a healthier India and allow its citizens to lead more productive and meaningful lives.
